First presentation of the "Women in Rail Award" at InnoTrans 2024
The figures speak for themselves: 50% female passengers in rail transport are compared to only 20% female employees in the rail sector. The integrity, dynamism and competitiveness of what has always been a male-dominated industry are suffering from this imbalance in times of ever-increasing staff shortages. It is high time to put the pioneering women in the industry in the spotlight and thus present the diversity of the sector to the public.
For the first time, the "Women in Rail Award" is now recognizing outstanding and inspiring women in the rail sector in three categories:
- Women Empowerment Award: this award recognises a European company in the railway sector that has gone the extra-mile in making gender-balance a top priority and fully integrated in its day-to-day decisions and DNA
- Leadership and Mentoring Award: this award recognises a woman who has demonstrated exceptional leadership and mentoring through concrete actions helping women to make a positive impact in the European railway sector
- Research and Innovation Award: this award recognises a woman that has demonstrated outstanding work through research and innovation contributing to enhance the attractiveness and/or competitiveness of rail
The award was initiated by the the European Commission's Women in Transport platform, Europe’s Rail Joint Undertaking (EU-Rail), the European Union Agency for Railways (ERA), the Community of European Railway and Infrastructure Companies (CER), the European Rail Supply Industry Association (UNIFE), and Federation of European Train Drivers´ Unions (ALE)
The award ceremony will take place for the first time at this year's InnoTrans on Wednesday, September 25, 2024. Candidates for one of the three categories can apply here until May 31.
